VC ’s decision to reappoint Arya sparks controversy

CHANDIGARH: A controversy is brewing at the PU examination centre 38 at arts block I.

The entire staff is baffled by the decision of Vice-chancellor K N Pathak’ to reappoint deputy superintendent Dr Dharam Vir Arya. This despite centre’s chief coordinator Prof S K Gupta as well as the centre superintendent and coordinator having submitted a written complaint about Arya’s alleged dubious conduct.

Things came to such a pass that Gupta offered to resign. His resignation was, however, not accepted by the VC.

Arya’s reappointment order was passed much to the chagrin of the senior officials at the examination centre. Arya had been deputed on "outside duty" at centre 38, Arts Block I. It is learnt that Arya protested on being offered a ‘low position".

He also wrote to the V-C against the centre.

Sources told TNN that he was later asked to perform the duty of deputy superintendent in the evening session on April 1 and in the subsequent morning as well as evening sessions of the examination.

He never reported on time and had left station without the mandatory permission of the superintendent and controller of examination. Pointing out the shortcomings of Arya, the coordinator asked the VC for his removal.

He was, however, left with no choice when Arya re-turned with the VC’s reappointment order on May 5.

The very same day Gupta protested against the VC’s decision and submitted his resignation. The authorities were requested to find his replacement from May 6. Sources told TNN that the decision had a demoralising affect on the staff, who feel that an influential person has pulled strings.

VC Prof Pathak could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. He was reported to have gone out of station. In a classic case of lack of coordination, the office of the controller of examination (CoE) on May 6 accepted the resignation of chief coordinator Prof S K Gupta and appointed coordinator Prof S K Tandon in his place.

On the other hand, the VC had clearly refused to accept Gupta’s resignation. He had been asked to continue the very same day. CoE Dr Sodhi Ram said that he was not aware of any such case.

<formid=367815></formid=367815>
